Better World Proxe

This Proxe is a campus engagement tool that is meant to share the gospel via the lens of the racial injustice issues highlighted by Black Lives Matter and Black On Campus. Through the conversation, we invite visitors to consider our broken world, the hope that Jesus offers and his invitation to be a part of a prophetic, reconciling kingdom.

This Proxe is a campus engagement tool that is meant to share the gospel via the lens of the racial injustice issues highlighted by Black Lives Matter and Black On Campus. Its goals are threefold:

  1. Affirm the dignity of black lives, students, and faculty,
  2. See conversion of black and non-black students and faculty as the gospel is shared, and
  3. Develop black and non-black students and faculty in sharing the gospel via the lens of racial injustice affecting the black community.

Through the conversation, we invite visitors to consider our broken world, the hope that Jesus offers and his invitation to be a part of a prophetic, reconciling kingdom.

The Better World Proxe comes with a set of training documents and ideas for follow-up. It is critical that a fellowship do the pre-work of building trust within the fellowship and with black students on campus. This proxe should only be used after the fellowship has spent time discussing and praying about the racial injustices affecting the black community. It should be followed by intentional activities that invite students into deeper engagement in scripture and justice. Without these ingredients, this Proxe may cause unintentional and unnecessary damage. With the right components, this Proxe can be part of the fellowship’s deeper commitment to witness and justice.

⚠️ Do you have the right ingredients to host this proxe?

  1. Has your fellowship spent time discussing, praying & engaging racial injustices highlighted by BLM?
  2. Do you have trust and existing relationships with black students on campus? (For BCM & multiethnic contexts, do you have a key black student/staff leader who wants to run this proxe?)
  3. Are you willing to protect and care for each other should this Proxe elicit rebuke, criticism or ridicule towards Proxe hosts?
  4. Do you have key follow-up action steps and activities planned for this Proxe?

If you can say “Yes” to all four questions, you should consider using this proxe. If you cannot say “Yes” to all four, work on the questions to which you answered “No” and revisit the idea of using this proxe later in the year.
